About This Piece

One of my most interesting neighbours is Cheryl, who rents an apartment near my studio.

She has dug up half the alley behind the building where she lives, and planted a vegetable garden. It matters not to her that people are trying to drive their cars through the same space, and not even the landlord dares contradict her.

She also decorates her garden with trellises, religious articles, and various found objects that she thinks are pretty.

She allowed me permission to make this painting of one corner of her garden, where she had a decorative bird cage installed. She likes the title, since it’s about her, and she picked out the frame.
