About This Piece

This drawing was completed in one sitting on a sunny, hot Friday afternoon at Glenmore Park in Calgary.

I was originally attracted by the flower pots across the road, but then my eye was drawn to the wood stove on my side of the road.

I began with a charcoal underdrawing, which I adjusted several times to correct the proportions. I then covered the whole thing in oil pastel, and dug in with a palette knife to go back in and correct the colours.

It was hot, and there were ants everywhere.
