About This Piece

I took a number of photos throughout the Rocky Mountains during the summer of 2016, with the intention of using them as source material for studio paintings and drawings.

This drawing was completed in one sitting at the studio on July 3rd, 2017.

This is a small section from the bottom centre of the photo, focused on three trees that seem to be standing there admiring the lake and the mountains.

I was attracted to these trees because they were standing by themselves, and because of their pose. I was also very interested in how the lake changes colour in the middle, going from a very saturated bright blue on the other side to almost a greyish green on the near side.
