Shadowlands

I did a series of five small paintings on the subject of "Shadowlands," which was the play that took place at the Engineered Air Theatre during May , 2016, with the Fire Exit Theatre. When I started the paintings it was because I thought Emmaus (my art group) was supposed to be doing a show for them - anyway, my friend corrected me on that pretty quickly, but I figured, since I started the paintings I might as well finish them. This is how they turned out. Three of them were included in the "Blessings" show that started on June 7th, 2016 at Dalhousie Mennonite Church - "Behold I Stand," "Blessed Are They that Mourn," and "Yea Though I Walk".

With these pieces, I'm going back to a kind of Expressionist feel, using Rembrandt-style lighting for the indoor scenes, and keeping everything bright and loose in the outdoor scene. The palette was very simple; I used Cadmium reds, yellows, and greens, ultramarine blue, and Payne's grey."
